Retention's Progressive Effect on Business

February 26, 2019

Retention in the business demanding is the act of maintaining personnel by means of making use of practices that create a safe, strong, and extra enjoyable paintings vicinity. Until the mid-1970 to the early 1980's it turned into no longer unusual for an employee to remain employed on the identical organisation all through their profession. This being truth throughout commercial enterprise, there was little need to study why employees give up, or to create programs to make certain they live. After -thirds of the 1900's had exceeded, the outlook of employee's began to trade from the, "if I do my activity, I will preserve my process" mentality to, "if my enterprise treats me proper I will live, if now not there is plenty of different places to work". Because of this change in questioning, companies needed to start searching into approaches of preserving their personnel satisfied sufficient to live - Retention was born.

Speaking from the point of view of large businesses, small commercial enterprise, or even down to the employee level retention is an crucial issue to the corporation / employee dating. According to the Department of Labor the fee to update an employee, who's shifting on is equal to approximately one-third of their salary. This issue is compounded via collateral loss to the organization. With the departing worker you can assume to lose other personnel, in addition to customers on your competition. Moreover maintaining an employee is just one factor of retention. Supporting employees by using improving their job delight is but some other retention value so that it will maximize the workforce. Satisfaction adds benefit to each the agency and the worker. When the employee is happy with their work, they generally tend to reveal greater enthusiasm to be able to build enterprise wide ethical and in flip growth productiveness. With the norm now being a task transition in  to 3 years and with the old philosophy of "a job for lifestyles" out the window, retention is and may be stay a growing component of commercial enterprise.

Retention at the groups stage.

Constructing and utilising a retention software with-in an corporation in not only a - accurate idea - it is a way to success. With-within the global of retention there are several sub sections that during themselves might decorate any commercial enterprise, but whilst utilized collectively properly it will become a commercial enterprise guarantor. Before deciding on a retention approach you must first apprehend why humans go away their positions. Interviews finished by means of the Gallop Organization display that employees do not cease their jobs they cease their boss. That stated, it is wise to first appearance for your control when coping with a high turnover issues.

The strategic development of a retention plan is going to benefit the enterprise in two ways. The first is monetarily, by way of growing the quantity of time you may capitalize in your investment in an worker. When an worker is hired the organization is making an investment by way of placing money into recruiting, hiring, and training. The investment will handiest display a go back so long as the worker continues to paintings for the company. Hence preserving the employee will not handiest keep the organisation rehire expenses, but also continue to expose growth at the preliminary funding. Production is the second one aspect of a strategic retention plan. It is widely recognized that people thrive on motivation and when well endorsed attitudes will improve and productivity will enhance on the identical charge. These motivators can consist of however not be restricted to;

• Recognition for a task nicely accomplished.
• Monetary rewards such as income increase, bonus, or income share packages.
• Advancement as merited.
• Creation of meaningful work with plausible goals and challenge completion.

These are only some methods of creating an worker experience like an irreplaceable part of the group. When looking at motivation techniques it's far vital to recognize that everyone is particular and stimulated in exceptional approaches. The nice approach to locating out a way to motivate an employee is to invite them; why do you come back to paintings?

Retention at the worker level.

Considering the blessings of retention from an employee's attitude often offers businesses the upper hand in designing their strategic retention plans. Looking to the beyond, there was a time whilst dying and dismemberment had been dangers that many personnel faced on any given day. It become now not until the early 1900's while employee repayment legal guidelines held employers to a brand new trendy of more secure operating environments. Over time retention has evolved in the equal way.

Organizations generally tend to position sure components of their business on preserve until they feel it's miles beginning to fee them an excessive amount of cash. As the instances changed and greater employees portrayed the "what about me" attitude companies had to start adjusting the manner they deal with flip over. Retention layout have become a crucial component in strategic management and personnel have benefited from the ensuing modifications given that.

With the improving work surroundings employees will discover it less difficult to get via a work day, in addition to give the agency employment durability. This truth will result in a more strong paintings records for the worker and in flip provide a better usual lifestyle. There is not any argument that a friendly smiling waitress will get a higher tip than a bad-tempered cranky one. This is the identical concept behind the connection among, productiveness and employees feeling typically glad at paintings. A look at carried out by Sirota Survey Intelligence based on 228,798 employees of various backgrounds stated that, of humans that deliberate to end a business enterprise with-in three hundred and sixty five days most effective;

• forty five percent had been happy with their work done.
• 20 percentage had been satisfied with their advancement opportunities.
• 33 percentage were glad with their typical treatment.
• 55 percentage were happy with their manager.
• 28 percent have been happy with their pay.

With-inside the identical survey, of the employees that said they planned on staying with the agency for 5 years or longer;

• 84 percent have been satisfied with their paintings completed.
• fifty four percent have been happy with their development possibilities.
• eighty five percent have been glad with their universal treatment.
• seventy eight percentage had been satisfied with their manager.
• forty seven percentage were satisfied with their pay.

The outcomes of this examine show the connection between being normal glad with the paintings and operating surroundings and their typical willingness to stay at an employer. The examine additionally indicates that of the employees that planned to live with the agency much less than half have been simply happy with their wages. Moreover, personnel will deal with profits issues longer than they may positioned up with being handled unsatisfactory.

Key retention additives.

There are numerous additives which might be necessary to keeping employees. Benefits, revenue, motivation, career positioning and perks are all part of those additives. Health care usually consists of clinical, dental and occasionally vision. This is a advantage this is commonplace and routinely expected to take delivery of to an worker. The recession and rising value had made this particularly difficult for a few enterprise to keep or are forwarding the fee directly to personnel. If an worker is lucky, the corporation may additionally consist of a flex spending account. This is a application that may advantage an employee in several ways. This can help someone deciding to buy future health care expenses, some that they will have no longer been capable of cover without this benefit. It can also lower your tax legal responsibility. Employers can give several alternatives to personnel regarding retirement, as an example a 401(okay) or pension.

Salary

Salary is also an critical to both company and worker. An agency ought to research industry standards for revenue and keep to that minimum. To keep the excellent talent the revenue will need to be above average. When finding out upon pay scales it's miles imperative to realize what your competition are paying in addition to your industries fashionable. If your personnel are paid too excessive you place your enterprise up for failure while it comes time to provide increases, Yet if too low it's miles tough to recruit the talent with a purpose to excellent in shape the enterprise in addition to the placement.

Motivation

Organizational motivation is imperative to retaining up morale, to fulfill company goals and getting the satisfactory out of your personnel. Motivation starts offevolved with pinnacle stage executives. Strong leaders at the pinnacle of the business enterprise has the responsibility to motivate each mid-stage and lower level employees. Mentoring packages, remarks, rewarding effective behavior and accomplishing organization dreams or even private goals in the enterprise can assist with reaching the incentive needed. Learning to customise the manner you lead a person may be an incredible motivator.

Proper career positioning can be a way to boom worker loyalty. If you like what you are doing, the more likely you may stay in which you're. This is a continuation of personalizing your commercial enterprise practices and growth employee motivation. Find out what a person strengths and interest are and regulate the person's cutting-edge position or create a function that maximizes the worker's productiveness and happiness.

Fringe Benefits

Employee perks are little (or huge) reminders to an worker that they are liked. Cell phones are a primary a part of speaking for my part and professionally. Cell cellphone allowance or bargain is a perk that can be taken benefit of on a every day basis. Child care whether or not it's miles on website online or at a discount at a near-by preschool is a remarkable choice for operating parents. A company can give employees the opportunity to nominate peers for going above and past their typical task and award that character with tickets to a sports activities event; additionally executives can hand out sporting tickets for a task properly accomplished.

Company activities are almost always appreciated. The traditional business enterprise picnics amongst different activities. Quarterly outings, team building, lunch time activities, i.E. Having a business enterprise sport console, wii bowling, and ping pong tournaments.
Flex schedules may be a boon for college kids, operating dad and mom and personnel that without a doubt deserve to have a flexible agenda. This can come within the shape of running from home, 4 ten hour days, process sharing, and so forth.

Emergence of IT & ITES - Effect on the Labour Laws

February 26, 2019

India's emergence because the 4th biggest economy as additionally a contender for a seat within the UN Security Council is the end result of the excessive pace of financial improvement that it has achieved within the modern-day segment of liberalisation. In the course of fifteen years, India has turn out to be mentioned as the IT hub-centre, dealer of professional body of workers to the sector, and many others. It has also regained its position as the spokes state of the developing international. On the opposite hand, India is poorly placed in terms of human improvement index. The development of social capital is insufficient and worst is its access, as it stays restrained to city areas and to rural elite. For majority of populace, extra so folks that in advance constituted part of the Organised Sector workforce, the rising situations can not be worse. The informalisation of labor, talent obsoleteness, absence of any formal social security has left them in a kingdom of desperation.

The direct have an effect on of informalisation has been deterioration in appreciate for labour rights. The provisions of large number of labour legal guidelines continue to be non-enforced. The adherence to the middle labour standards stays top in paper most effective. The desire to get greater FDI and stress from the MNCs have caused the government to overlook violations. Further the exchange unions are divided on political traces. There are however, accelerated sports among non-mainstream labour companies, however then they're now not influential on the coverage-making tiers. The declining size of group of workers in the organised sector, with dwindling guide from the authorities against an competitive employers have further enlarged the scale of workforce that isn't in receipt of benefits of legislative protection as additionally of government's labour welfare guidelines.

The available discussions inside the ITES-BPO zone in India strongly recommend that the sector is characterised by a few diploma of `illustration lack of confidence' or `voice-insecurity'. Near absence of trade unions or similar organisations inside the sector, till currently, is reflective of this component. Striking absence of collective bargaining and social dialogue establishments, dismal scenario labour law implementation and a robust inclination of the companies closer to dealing with industrial family members on an individual basis, technologically aided surveillance mechanisms and so forth cumulatively led to a state of affairs, in which the enterprise is characterised with totalisation of labour manipulate or the `give up of worker voice'.

The dismal profile of exchange union activities within the outsourcing sector of India, all through the early section of the enterprise, might be because of a number of motives, which consist of unique profile of the workforce engaged inside the region, bizarre nature of labor and work business enterprise, cellular nature of labor and high fees of turnover of the industry. Issues related to the newness of occupations within the sector (and as a result, loss of experience of stakeholders in tackling the issues) and so forth. Some of these elements are elaborated in the end to reach at positive conclusions at the establishing problems in the sector.

The enterprise and technological modernization along with in particular web-based provider outsourcing, must no longer be undertaken on the cost of labour, that is, by way of pitting employees in opposition to people anywhere and rolling again labour rights via a race to the lowest, ignoring the common middle labour rights (freedom of association, collective bargaining, non-discrimination, non-use of compelled labour and elimination of excessive styles of infant labour) and forgetting that the give up-all and be-all of any financial development is the development of the lives of the running humans.

The nicely documented job turnover prices inside the ITES quarter, the very best amongst industries, most effective show too nicely that occupants of these 'incredibly-paid' jobs find their jobs hard, boring and unwanted within the medium and lengthy runs. Decent operating conditions are a prerequisite for exact and dependable carrier provision. To make those jobs sustainable and decrease high priced turnovers, the proprietors and managers of call centers, BPOs, software and IT companies in addition to governments ought to cope with the human aid situation and respect the simple rights of those employees to establish alternate unions of their very own deciding on and good buy together as provided for in the respective ILO Conventions.

It is likewise widely stated that the lower diploma of alternate unionism or collectivity many of the workers is intently associated with the generation aided paintings enterprise and controls practiced within the quarter. The paintings arrangements and interactions at place of job are pre-designed and implemented, leaving the workers minimum scope for any `undesirable' socialisation aiming at agency or formation of employees collectives . The employees should work continuously and of their limitless run after paintings goals, they do no longer even find any time for considering collectivity and change unionism. The HR practices in the ITES-BPO area suggest a changed paradigm of employees management vis-à-vis that of the traditional production/ service sectors. The project of camouflaging work as amusing is vested with Human Resource (HR) managers. They take note of a number of issues, varying from hiring the proper human beings to charting out their profession alternatives to the personnel.

Agreements between groups and unions on the country wide degree ought to make sure the subsequent:

o Job Security: Companies must straight away stop proposals to outsource, offshore or contract out work so that it will result in the pressured lay off of workers.

O Redeployment: Effective redeployment need to be undertaken protecting profession price and phrases and situations of employment.

O Labour Standards: Companies to which work is outsourced ought to examine all the center labour standards of the ILO. These are mainly the rights to organize and good buy collectively. Moreover, we need mechanisms to monitor observance of standards; they have to consist of the alternate unions and their global union federations.

The ITES proprietors and bosses, governments and applicable worldwide bodies have to recall the adoption of a regular charter. Recognition of a universal constitution with clauses respecting minimum labour requirements, middle labour members of the family rights, healthy and safe work conditions, ceilings on work hours and employee representation are crucial to shield the interest now not simplest of the ITES personnel however also of the ITES industries themselves. They are the important thing to the stabilization of jobs in what's otherwise visible as a 'transition industry'.

large Employers and value effective safe Hiring Practices

January 08, 2019

American industries that hire large numbers of hourly, transient or seasonal personnel are stuck in a seize-22.

On one hand, they realize that in the event that they don't take measures to conduct pre-employment screening and exercise due diligence in hiring, it's far a statistical genuinely they're sitting ducks for costly litigation, place of work violence, fake claims, robbery, embezzlement and monetary loss.

simply one horrific rent can fee a company actually tens of millions. studies display that screening well-known shows criminal information for up to 10% of activity applicants, and at the least one-0.33 of all resumes include substances falsehoods. For meals institutions, manufactures, motels and different business that have a countrywide logo, one terrible worker triggered occasion can result in damaging countrywide exposure and big harm to the emblem.

The catch, however, is that huge hourly employers face extensive economic and logistical demanding situations in imposing safe hiring applications. Screening huge numbers can be steeply-priced and time eating. a few industries lease at a couple of places, and can enjoy huge turnover.

The problem is compounded while corporations hire seasonal, brief or contract people as properly. Such industries can consist of hospitality, manufacturing, provider, retail, meals and eating places, and tourism. The task is how industries with a large numbers of hourly, seasonal, transient or agreement people or huge turnover, can shield themselves in a value-powerful and efficient manner.

the answer is probably much less complicated then it first seems-due diligence and secure hiring does now not require a huge finances while employers put into effect a safe hiring machine, in preference to buying background tests.

Many firms make the error of believing that during order to reveal due diligence, they need to spend a high-quality deal of money to perform background checks and criminal record studies. these companies view pre-employment screening as a technique that starts after a hiring manager has decided on an applicant, and the call is submitted to security or human assets for a background file. depending upon the organisation, it's far either outsourced to a heritage employer or investigated internally through company protection.

An powerful history-screening application, but, does now not need to price a first-rate deal of money because it's far tons extra then just checking heritage and criminal records after a candidate has been selected. In truth, in an powerful safe hiring machine, the number one tools are the software, interview and reference checking system, also known as the AIR method. those methods are accomplished in-house as a part of the routine hiring program, and do no longer cost employers a dime, as long as it's far followed. A quick review of the AIR technique is contained in the attached safe Hiring checklist.

AIR procedure

1. Use an utility shape, no longer just resumes.

Use of an employment software shape is taken into consideration a excellent practice. Resumes aren't continually complete or clean. packages make certain each uniformity and that each one needed records is acquired, prevents employers from having impermissible statistics, and gives employers with a place for applicants to sign positive necessary statements.

2. ensure the utility form contains all vital language.

a. Use the broadest viable language for prison and misdemeanor convictions and pending cases. certainly one of the most important mistakes employers make is to simplest ask about felonies on an software shape due to the fact misdemeanors can be very extreme. Employers ought to inquire about misdemeanors to the volume allowed in their state.

b. statement that crook records do no longer automatically disqualify an applicant. this is vital for EEOC compliance. it's miles crucial for employers to remember that the background screening is performed to decide whether a person is suit for a particular job. Society has a vested interest in giving ex-offenders a threat. but, an company is below a due diligence responsibility to make efforts to decide if someone is affordable suit for a specific position. for instance, someone just out of custody for a violent crime would now not be a great candidate for a process that require them to enter people's domestic, but might also perform thoroughly on a supervised work group. If a crook document is discovered, an enterprise ought to determine if there is a enterprise reason now not to hire the character, primarily based upon the character and gravity of the offense, the nature of the process and when the crime passed off. There also are barriers to using arrests no longer resulting in a conviction, and some of states also have rules about criminal statistics.

c. Statements that loss of truthfulness or cloth omissions are grounds to terminate the hiring procedure or employment irrespective of whilst they are observed. this is specially important if a criminal record is found. even though a criminal record might not be used mechanically to disqualify an applicant, the fact an applicant has lied about a criminal rely may be the idea for an adverse decision.

three. Require a release for a historical past test inside the software manner.

Have each job applicant sign a consent form for a historical past take a look at, consisting of a test for criminal data, past employment and education. saying that your firm assessments backgrounds may additionally discourage candidates with some thing to cover, and encourage candidates to be straightforward and sincere approximately mistakes they have got made in the beyond. If a firm outsources to a 3rd birthday celebration seller, then beneath the federal fair credit score Reporting Act (FCRA), there should be a disclosure on a separate standalone document.

four. assessment the application carefully.

In maximum times, when there may be an employee hassle or lawsuit, a cautious overview of the application could have alerted the organisation in advance that they were hiring a lawsuit waiting to manifest, look for the following pink flags:

Applicant does now not sign application.

Applicant does now not signal consent or historical past screening.

Applicant leaves criminal questions blank (the sincere criminal syndrome-dopes not want to lie approximately a criminal past).

Applicant self-reviews a criminal violation (applicants can self record subjects incorrectly.)

Applicant fails to give an explanation for why she or he left beyond jobs,

Applicant fails to explain gaps in employment history.

Applicant gives an explanation for an employment gap or the reason leaving preceding activity that doesn't make sense.

immoderate pass-outs and adjustments (as even though making it up as they cross along)

Applicant fails to offer complete statistics (i.e. insufficient data to become aware of a past organization, leaves out earnings, and so forth).

Applicant failed to indicate or can't don't forget the call of a former supervisor.

5. In reviewing packages, search for unexplained employment gaps.

it is crucial to verify beyond employment to determine where a person has been for the ultimate five-10 years, even if you handiest get dates and process titles. search for unexplained gaps in employment. usually, if you can affirm that a person become gainfully employed for the last five to 10 years, or their whereabouts may be validated it is much less likely the character spent time in custody for a critical offense, despite the fact that this doesn't put off the possibility of lesser offenses.

6. In reviewing packages, examine reasons for leaving every job.

7. usually ask those five questions (throughout home tasks level of interview).

given that they have signed consent and agree with you're doing checks, candidates have a effective incentive to be sincere. those questions are the equal of a new Age Lie detector check. true candidates will shrug it off and candidates with something to cover may also monitor vital information.

a. We do heritage tests on all and sundry we make a proposal to. Do you any concerns about which you would like to speak about? (desirable candidates will shrug off)

b. We additionally check for crook convictions for all finalists. Any issues about that? (ensure the wording of the question reflects what an employer may additionally legally ask in that country)

c. We touch all beyond employers. What do assume they will say?

d. Will beyond company inform us that e.g. your had been tardy, did now not carry out properly and so on.

e. additionally, use interview to invite questions on any unexplained employment gap

8. test references and look for Unexplained Employment Gaps:

Verifying past employment is one of the unmarried most critical gear for an organization. it may be as critical as doing crook tests. beyond activity performance can also be an vital predictor of future achievement. a few employers make a highly-priced mistake by no longer checking beyond employment because they trust beyond employers won't deliver distinct records. but, even verification of dates of employment and activity titles are essential because an corporation ought to be involved approximately unexplained gaps inside the employment records.

further, documenting the reality that an effort changed into made will exhibit due diligence. even though there may be many motives for an opening in employment, if an applicant can't account for the past seven to 10 years, that can be a crimson flag.

it's also important to recognise where a person has been due to the way crook statistics are maintained in the united states. opposite to popular perception, there isn't a countrywide crook database to be had to most non-public employers. Searches should be performed at each relevant courthouse, and there are over 10,000 courthouses in america. but, if an agency knows in which an applicant has been as a result of past employment exams, it will increase the accuracy of a crook search, and decreases the opportunity that an applicant has served time for a serious offense.

After the AIR manner, a company is nicely recommended to carry out a crook check. the good news is that with an powerful AIR manner, the opportunity of locating a critical crook report is significantly decreased. A company can dramatically decrease their cost by way of concentrating on the maximum latest counties where an applicant is living or spent a protracted period of time. some professionals contend that statistically, a person is much more likely to dedicate against the law in their county of house. As a result, a take a look at of the county of contemporary house gives an company the most return for the expenditure.

An organization may additionally want to do 459ac808c22b462a8bbea156c10866e7 search relying upon the kind of position. An enterprise can also need to check those positions with a greater risk for elevated scrutiny, such as:

a. Supervisors

b. people handling coins or non-public Identifyable statistics (PII).

c. far flung or unsupervised employees

d. people that move into humans's homes

e. employees with get entry to to property

f. vendors

g. transient employees

h. Contractors

Employers who rent providers, temporary personnel or contractors can insist that the issuer of those services do screening. Many corporations may additionally have janitorial crews in the colleges at night time, or carriers offering crucial elements or services. Employers are within their rights to insist that 0.33 birthday party provider certify that they have completed checks as properly.

enforcing a software in the course of the corporation

the most important undertaking for an company is to sell safe hiring and due diligence throughout an company. The intention is to make certain that hiring managers across exceptional divisions and every so often across specific bodily locations follow approaches and be aware of safe hiring.

the answer is to installation a S.A.F.E. Hiring system. It stands for:

S-Set-up a software, guidelines and processes to be used at some point of the enterprise, consisting of the AIR process

A-Acclimate/teach all folks with safe hiring duties, particularly hiring
managers.

F- Facilitate/put in force the program.

E-compare and audit the program by using making sure that everyone responsible understands that their reimbursement and development is judged in element by way of the eye they pay to the hiring process. corporations normally accomplish those things which are measured, audited and rewarded. My Second Rape Didn't Break Me Like The First

September 13, 2016
The first time we had sex it was great, it went for hours but I did end up orgasming which was the entire point of me going over there. He'd ordered an uber for my housemates and I to ensure I was safe, meeting people off tinder can be a game of caution. I had actually seen this man around, I used to manage a store in Chermside and he was the Apple Store guy; we'd just never spoken before. This guy was tall, had that hair cut I loved, tattoos and muscly and to be honest something about his Apple guy tech talk turned me on. He ordered us an Uber home and asked me to text him when we got home safe. I did and he wanted to see me again.

It turned into a regular thing, not just the sex but listening to music and talking about our exes, going to breakfast and dinner and movies. One time he even held me as I cried about my recent loss of love. It was okay, until it wasn't.

One night I was drinking and he sent for me with an uber so I obliged. When I got there I remember sitting on the bed, dizzy and trying to stop everything from moving. Then I remember us having sex. Now I don't want to shame anyone who likes this, I'd done it before and liked it but decided it wasn't for me so when he asked to do anal that night and I said 'no, I don't want to can we keep doing this' I expected for us to just...keep doing this. Instead I felt the pain of a thousand knives and started crying. He had forced himself into me and I didn't expect it. I had to push him away so he would stop or he wouldn't have.

I foolishly chalked that down to a one time thing and that it wouldn't happen again. And looking back I don't blame myself because I was so in need of company because I was so broken over my breakup even though it had been months. I needed someone to just be with me, even if they did something that hurt me, I seemed to look over it. To be honest I should have known it would get progressively worse the more he told me he wanted to degrade me.

Then I got suicidal, I was fragile and no one seemed to care. My ex still in the picture but obviously not offering the same support as before, I needed someone to actually talk to me and no one really flinched when I said I wanted to kill myself. I did the bare minimum of everything, of moving and eating - it felt like my breath was sucked out of my lungs and a cloud was in my head. I told this man all of this. And there I was in the uber again.

When I got there he let me sleep, but in the morning that wouldn't be the case. I was actually woken up to him wanting me to touch his penis that was erect and kind of intimidating. I just wanted to sleep and I was half there. He kept putting my hand on it and I would politely smile and take it back off. He kept saying things like 'I can't go in to work like this though.' And I ended up responding with 'Then sort yourself out?' So he did, in the bed, right next to me. It started with him putting my hand on his leg saying 'Can you please just touch me' and so I left my hand on his leg. And then he put my hand down there, I moved it away but he put it back on and I guess it stayed on. He tried talking dirty but I was half asleep and didn't have time for that so I ignored him and just kind of laid there with my eyes closed waiting for it to end, funnily enough, being polite. He kept saying he couldn't go in to work like this and pushing me for more involvement in what he was doing and I kept saying 'no' until he climbed on top of me and sat on my chest and put his junk all over me. I told him I would bite it if he didn't get the fuck off me, he didn't. In my head I was trapped. I was technically trapped physically, I mean I could have bitten his dick off but it didn't really seem like a feasible option. But in my mind I was trapped, I was in his house, he was the means of transport there, and I was also broken. The only way out I had was to let him get it over and done with so I said can I please first go to the toilet. He released me and I went to the bathroom to collect myself. From there I could have just snuck out and forfeited my bag and phone and like found my way out out of where ever I was but that wasn't what I did. Instead I let him get it over with and while the sex wasn't horrible I wanted it to be over before it even started.

After he got what he needed he went cold. I ended up leaving feeling more suicidal than I had when I came to him. Even though I said no about 27 times that morning I still gave him the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe he just didn't understand. So I texted him and explained all of this to him, reminded him of every moment I said no, I told him I really, really didn't want to do it and how I felt after. He told me 'that's just your opinion on it, I didn't see it like that'.
'See it like what? I said no like 27 times this morning and you forced yourself on top of me so I couldn't move?' I sent. He still wouldn't see it. After a few texts back and forth of me continuously giving him the benefit of the doubt I said I didn't want to continue seeing him. As soon as I said that he apologised and asked what he could do to make it better.

He's messaged me a few times since but I'm keeping that experience closed and bound. I don't know if my previous rape has made me numb to actually being sodomised against my will. But I think it all ties in with my feeling abandoned by the person I thought I would spend the rest of my life with and some mummy and daddy issues and the fact that I felt ignored and unimportant at my absolute lowest, it allowed me to be taken advantage of both physically and mentally.

So I've been raped twice. There's a statistic that says women who've been raped once are more likely to be raped again and there's absolutely no studies to be found that suggest why. There's a lot of speculation on forums saying that women who are raped are more likely to put themselves in that situation again but that's all victim blaming bullshit. I didn't ask to be sodomised or forced into sex, sure I didn't bite his dick off or run into the street with no clothes on but I didn't make him do that to me. And while we're on the question of why women who've been raped are more likely to be raped again, I'll cite that he knew I'd been raped some years before because that's just where one of our D&M's had lead previously.

Why are there no studies on this? Why are rape victims being blamed not only for their first rape but the ones thereafter? Why am I not broken from my second rape as much as my first rape broke me? I don't have answers for these questions, only explanations for why I didn't act violently or recklessly to try and stop it from happening because I know there are going to be people questioning why I didn't do those things in an attempt to save his face and blame me.

It took me 5 years to be able to write about my first rape, to even tell someone about my rape. It only took me a few weeks to write about this one. Does that mean I'm becoming numb to being raped or that I now expect it in a world where women are constantly raped?

He Told Me He Loved Me Then FaceTimed His Date To Me

September 11, 2016
I wanted to write about this hours after it happened, but I knew it would be a reckless piece and I still wasn't sure of the magnitude of the situation; I wasn't sure if the sick feeling I felt was distaste for him, or a knee jerk overreaction. It's been a few days and with every day that passes, every time I listen to 'My Face' by Skegss and every time I talk to someone else, I feel the emotion and thoughts of this slip away. I want to capture this emotion before it leaves my body like capturing a moment of pure pain before the poison evaporates.

To fully express my feelings and thoughts on this we'll need to examine who I was and what I was looking at when I met this man, my ex, and oh it feels strange to say that. How did I feel when I met him? Did he do what he's done and doing to me, to a girl before him?

Well he was charming; he still is. And just like the day we met to the moment I'm typing these keys, he knows just what to say. I was firstly attracted to what I thought was emotional maturity, he is 8 years my senior (30 fyi) and the boys i'd dealt with before had always been just a few years older than me and it still felt like I was dating emotionally immature people.

I fell so damn hard for this person so damn quick that I didn't even stop to see the signs. One of the red flags being distance, that being an important key for later. All of these things are important for later and I don't really want to focus on the relationship between the bread because while it was all good fillings, it's the bread at the end that's gone mouldy and has completely ruined what you thought was in the middle.

We had a good break up, I thought I had a good understanding of what we were and how we felt leaving the relationship and entering a hybrid between that and friendship. He has told me he loved me at the end of calls almost every day since the breakup (we broke up months ago) and we talked every day up until he did the thing. An extremely important part of this and why I'm mentioning it, is that not 24 hours before he did the thing he told me he loved me and for the first time since our breakup I didn't say it back because it startled me, I still haven't been able to pick up just why and I might not ever find out.

It's important to know that we facetime, call and message each other throughout the days exactly like we did in our 1-2 year relationship, nothing had changed, still sending 'xo', 'i love you's' and 'i miss you's'. It's also important to note that I have slept with and gone on dates with a handful of men since the breakup, never entering into anything serious and always being honest with them about my feelings for him and understanding within myself of the reality in the predicament. I have never and would never do what he's done to me or to his date.

So just a recap on everything so far: he told me he loved me, facetime isn't unusual and he knew I still loved him. Pretty simple.

On Friday night I was sitting on my bed doing some self care, with a mask on my face and a hair mask, well...in my hair. I had bought my favourite Glasshouse candle (tahaa) and had a book ready to read. Usually one of us would have called each other by now so I FaceTimed him and he answered pretty quickly. There he was, such a familiar warm face, but there was a smirk on it tonight and it was pretty obvious he'd been drinking. He waved into the camera and I cautiously waved back. The setting was a restaurant or bar dimly lit and moderately loud. I asked what he was doing, it wasn't unusual for him to be out alone or with friends. "I'm on a date" he said loudly. I felt a bit sick, like when you're going over a speed bump, but I almost didn't believe him. But now the smirk is starting to make more sense. I almost didn't want to see but a small part of me probably benefited from seeing her. She was innocently waving at me, smiling with a glass of wine. She doesn't even know who she's waving to at this point. But she will soon and if she didn't pick up on it then shit...

I asked him why he would answer a call from me, Facetime her to me when he told me he loved me not 24 hours before. "You're going on a date on Sunday so I can do this" he said as if he was a child proclaiming he could do what he wants because his sister got to do something that made him jealous. It's important to note that he said this while still sitting next to her. To that I told him how disrespectful it is for him to be doing this to her and to me, he laughed into the phone and hung up.

To say I was a little disoriented about the situation would be an understatement. I told my room mates what happened and they were just as confused as I was. We thought we knew him. But everything I thought I knew disappeared the more and more I mulled over it.

So for anyone out there reading this, not understanding the severity of this situation let me explain the morality of it. It comes down to manners. The core of this entire situation is manners and respect for the people you're interacting with.

I don't care that he's on a date, it would be foolish and selfish of me to try and restrict his basic human need for the comfort of another human being especially when I'm doing it too. So let me give you a scenario that will bring you in on a non bias angle and this hypothetical situation has helped me realise that my hurting is not an overreaction.

Example: You are a person, who has a friend who is deeply in love with you. You go on a date and this friend calls you, do you answer the call and proclaim you're on a date and then show this friend your date?

If you answered 'no' to this then it's probably because you have manners and respect your friend enough to know that doing this would be cruel and completely unnecessary. You would understand that while you can do whatever you want, rubbing it in the face of this friend after telling them you love them would confuse and hurt them and there's nothing real to gain from that. If you answered 'yes, there's nothing wrong with the situation', then I'm sorry but your moral compass can't quite find north.

When I expressed just this to him in message my hurt and feelings went ignored, literally. I sent him a paragraph of why it was wrong, how it made me feel and all the rest that follows and he texts back 'I hope work isn't too painful tonight'. Most of my friends are sick of hearing about the shit he does to me, someone even told me I deserve it for even being friends with him, another friend said he's a sociopath, says the right things, is the outwardly charming guy but at the end of it has no empathy for the people around him and no understanding of the hurt he inflicts on others. What do I think? Well I'm not completely made up on that one. I know that he's done something pretty unforgivable and instead of remembering what he did to me I choose to chalk it down to the fact that he lacks the morals I look for in a man and a friend. I feel betrayed by the person I thought I knew.

When I mentioned distance earlier in this piece I said it would be important. It's important because I never thought I'd have to see him on a date, to happen to be in the same place, the same party, the same restaurant or the same movie to feel what I'm feeling now. But because he had the means to show me that feeling so forcefully and so brutally I now know that I will not die if I see him with another woman, he will die in my eyes. The person I fell in love with would never have done this to me. Would never have smirked in my face, laughed into the phone at my pain or ignored my feelings by failing to empathise while changing the subject.

So to the woman I saw, wine in hand, innocently waving into my screen, regardless of whether you see him again know that you are not my enemy. I'm not jealous nor envious because i've experienced his charm and lived through his love. You weren't to know he was professing his love for me hours before, you didn't even ask for this, that's our common denominator. If your connection with him grows past this point I hope you never know the love we had or that your relationship may have sparked from spite or jealousy. I hope your future in love and romance is as pure and innocent as you looked the night I first saw you.
